Terry Blake recently spent some time at the Calshot
Indoor Track at a track training course held by British Cycling. Here's
Terry's report :
Stephanie Golding has completed a 4 session (3 hours each) BC
track training course. On the final 'Race Day', she rode very well to finish
1st in the individual pursuit and take the prize for the fastest girl, beating
4 other girls up to the age of 16, in the timed events.
-
1 lap flying start. Time 11.37 sec (fastest boy,
age 16, 9.96)
-
6 lap individual pursuit. Time 1min 21 sec. Caught her 14 yr
old opponent on the line.
This was a very well-run course, going from basics to
race-day.
There were 24 riders from SE England, mixed, ages from 12. All
showed huge improvements from Day 1 and really enjoyed the course. If British
Cycling run this again, I would strongly recommend we give it a go. It looked
great fun to me.
I was asked to 'look after' a team of 9 riders, made up mainly
of Sutton CC riders. The riders I was helping were a nice, friendly group. I
found it difficult trying to encourage "my" rider when matched against our
girl. I did not try very hard for that event !
However, the coach from Sutton CC is booking the track and
asked if we would like to share the booking. I will be going to help, as I have
the track accreditation required. It would mean we could share the costs and
make a good day out; it could also be a useful link to forge.
It is proposed to do this on Saturday 20th April 2008.
Anyone interested, please contact
Terry.
